Q1: Why are hardware HDD testers more effective than software test programs?
Hardware testers, like the Rack System, communicate directly with the hard drive using raw ATA commands while software can only send commands to the hard drive through PC BIOS. Working through BIOS dramatically slows the process and limits the software's ability to accurately test HDD characteristics. When compared to software test/diagnostic solutions, the Rack System always performs more tests in less time and provides a more accurate analysis of a hard drives status and life expectancy. Ask us for a cost & time reduction analysis to see how the Rack System will SAVE you time and money while enhancing your output capability!!!!
Q2: Is the Rack System faster, stronger or better than the King Kesender Mini?
The Rack system is not faster and does not yield a higher success rate for testing, repairing and/or erasing hard drives. The Rack System's main advantage (other than being a larger unit) is that it is more friendly to script command customization. It allows the user to create his/her own software function menu comprised of custom functions and task chains. This customization feature is also incorporated in the Geisha.
Q3: What is the purpose of the Rack System software?
The Rack System host software is automatically included with the hardware unit. The host software remotely controls the Rack System hardware and allows the user to input raw ATA script commands to initiate any custom function or task chain. It also provides a real-time status display for each connected hard drive and generates log files for certificates, troubleshooting and data management. The reporting system is especially important for high volume applications because it records all processed hard drives automatically.
Q4: Does the Rack System perform a Hard Drive Life Expectancy Test?
Yes. The Rack system has an independent power supply for each port, which enables it to perform HDD Life Expectancy Tests. These tests are comprised of the same commands used by major PC manufacturers in both R&D and production.
Q5: Does the Rack System work with any ATA, SATA or SCSI hard drive?
Yes. The Rack System is 'made to order' with any ATA, SATA or SCSI form factor available. Please inquire for details regarding specific interface options.
Q6: Does the Rack System work as a stand-alone unit?
No. The Rack System requires a host computer with USB 2.0 connection for basic operation.
Q7: Can this product test a hard drive without altering any HDD Data?
Yes. The Rack System offers HDD tests where no hard drive data is altered. It also offers test functions that do alter HDD data in order to test HDD mechanisms involved in the read/write process.
Q8: Can the Rack System unlock password locked hard drives or test a locked hard drive?
No. The Rack System can identify when a hard drive is locked by a password, but it cannot unlock the drive or run any test, wipe or repair functions on the locked hard drive. We offer separate products that are able to lock/unlock HDD passwords called the Atola.
Q9: What Options Are Available?
Adapters are available for ATA 2.5", 1.8", 1.0" and 0.85" hard drives for connecting a standard ATA cable to these types of hard drives. Plug-In Jigs are also available for increasing HDD connect/disconnect speed and reducing wear or damage to HDD pins that can result from connecting by hand. Shock, Vibration and Temperature chambers are available for simulating harmful environments in durability and life expectancy testing.
Q10: Does the Rack System have the correct voltage to work anywhere in the world?
Yes. The Rack System comes with a variable 110v ~ 240v power supply, making it compatible with any country's voltage specifications (no adjustment necessary).
Q11: How do you handle technical support?
Technicians are on hand at our Southern California office (U.S.A.) Monday through Friday between 9:00am and 5:00pm (Pac Standard Time) to handle technical support questions. Questions are answered by Email, phone and/or online customer message board.
Q12: What is the standard warranty?
All Ji2 hardware products come with a 12 month repair/replacement warranty. Warranty does not cover Wear Parts such as cables and interface connectors. Please inquire for details regarding out of warranty repair or authorized product returns.
Q13: What is the DoD 5220.22m erase standard? Does this product comply with DoD5220.22m?
DoD 5220.22m is a procedural standard set forth by the United States Department of Defense for securely wiping (erasing) data from hard drives. The most common DoD 5220.22m wipe method is the 3 Pass Wipe, where every HDD sector is overwritten 3 times using different Hexadecimal characters. The Rack System performs both 3-Pass and 7-Pass Wipe functions in compliance with DoD 5220.22m and generates certificate files for verification of erasure. Any other wipe method can be performed by inputting ATA script commands to the Rack System's software host program.
